A Dreamy Engagement Photo Shoot in Alfama: Capturing the Essence of Lisbon
As a Lisbon photographer, there’s nothing quite like capturing the love and excitement of a newly engaged couple against the backdrop of one of Lisbon’s most iconic neighborhoods.
Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a couple who had just gotten engaged and were planning their wedding for next year.
They wanted their engagement photo shoot to reflect the authentic beauty of Lisbon, and we decided on an early morning session in Alfama, the heart of the city’s old town.

We began the session at Portas do Sol, one of my favorite viewpoints in the city. This spot offers stunning panoramic views over Lisbon’s rooftops and the Tagus River, providing the perfect backdrop for the start of our photo shoot. The soft morning light paired with the vast landscape made every shot truly magical.
Flowers, Tiles and Charm
Next, we made our way to Miradouro de Santa Luzia, another viewpoint just steps away from Portas do Sol. Santa Luzia is renowned for its romantic atmosphere, with its cascading bougainvilleas and beautiful azulejos (Portuguese tiles).
The combination of flowers, vibrant tiles, and breathtaking views created the ideal romantic setting for this couple’s engagement photos.
From there, we wandered down the narrow streets of Alfama, where the true character of the neighborhood comes to life.
The cobblestone paths, tiny alleyways, and colorful houses gave each photo a unique personality, telling the story of the couple’s love amidst the charm of Lisbon’s historic district. It’s one of the reasons why Alfama is so special for a Lisbon photo shoot – every corner brings a new element of discovery and beauty.
